There are very few treatments available in the world apart from laser treatment and TCA to remove them.

There is NO MIRACLE TREATMENT that has one application to remove a tattoo.

The way TCA works is very simple. A controlled inflammation is generated on the skin over the tattoo. This inflammation causes the pigment (ink) to naturally break apart and migrate to the surface with new skin growth. Your body actually does most of the work. Generating a controlled inflammation repeatedly is what it takes to fade or remove a tattoo.

The Removal Process - Painless crusting and peeling of skin

Laser tattoo removal and chemical tattoo removal (TCA) both generate controlled inflammations. Rubbing a rough stone over the tattoo until it bleeds has been used for centuries to remove tattoos. TCA is the gentlest (and cheapest) way known to generate a controlled inflammation above the tattoo.

After 2 treatments (peels) It may take 6+ peels to completely remove/fade the tattoo.

Often people regret getting a tattoo. In fact between 25% and 35% of people with tattoos have these removed within 5 years with varying success. Most green ink contains titanium dioxide, which is very difficult to remove with laser treatments, but easier with chemical peels. Removal of red or black tattoos usually takes four or five laser treatments at $150 to $500 per visit. With a TCA chemical peel it takes up to 6 treatments to achieve the same result but at a total cost of less than $100. Green tattoos can still be visible after 20 laser treatments, which equates to thousands of dollars. These green tattoos can be removed successfully after a few chemical peel treatments at a fraction of the laser treatment price. Ankle tattoos are among the toughest to remove with laser treatments because the skin is so thin, but this is still possible with a Nova Clinic TCA chemical peel.

The Treatment

When applying the TCA, medical grade chemical peel, there will be burning sensation for a few minutes. (It helps to have a fan switched on high in the area at the time of application.) The area is washed with cool water. If a large area is being treated you can go under a shower to cool the skin down. Then an ice compress is applied to the area and the heat becomes less and less over about twenty minutes. This is the only short term discomfort.

The treatment will take approximately 10-14 days to remove 2 layers of skin including the tattoo (painlessly). The tattoo will fade even after 1 peel - through a tightening of the skin, change in skin colour, superficial peeling and then deeper peeling of the skin. You will need several treatments depending on depth and colours of the tattoo and skin type. Each TCA order has sufficient chemical solution to complete several treatments.

Regretting that tattoo???

You MUST follow the easy aftercare instructions, this is very important. Failure to do so may result in permanent scaring and blotchy removal of the tattoo.

The area must be kept clean and moist with moisturizer and anti bacterial cream during the peeling process, which is 10-14 days. The treated area can be covered with a dressing if working in a dusty environment to prevent infection. After peeling and while the NEW skin is healing it must be kept covered when in the sun, or sunscreen applied. Failure to protect the new skin (for a couple of weeks) from UV rays (sun & sun beds) will leave permanent scaring, and causes changes in skin pigmentation and colour.

One of the most important things when having a tattoo removal peel in the privacy of your own home is to create a sterile environment. It is extremely important to follow the instructions for applying the peel to the letter. Also religiously follow the aftercare instructions. Black and very deep olive skin is not suitable for a deep 100% strength TCA Peels due to probable pigment irregularities and scaring, a 50% strength peel is therefore recommended.You can buy 100% strength and follow the dilution instructions that come with the order.

Things you need to know:

It can take up to 6 weeks to see the full result of each peel. Repeated peels should have a time lapse of at least 2 months or you will get a superficial peel. The peeled/new skin needs to heal completely and toughen up before the next peel.

If your tattoo is in a weathered area, say arms, legs, feet, hands etc., or if you used a TCA peel and it did not work well, you need to scrub the area clean, rub toner on very firmly, wash off. Then rub TCA on in a firm, rubbing motion. These areas may be hard to penetrate and also can have build up of dense fatty tissue or a weathered skin shield. The tattoo itself can also have a protective coating/skin layer.
